Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine has advanced comprehensive performance management, linking performance assessment closely to the role of a tertiary hospital and aligning it with its strategic development goals. Assessment has become an effective tool for "optimizing the case-type mix and raising case difficulty."

The hospital set out a performance management structure and an operating plan based on the MDT management model. It established a three-tier management model of hospital, division and department, and set up a hospital-level comprehensive performance management committee. It introduced day surgery and built the supporting information system. Building on CHS-DRG grouping, it established a multi-level assessment system covering campuses, departments, case groups and physicians. The system takes in post workload, service quality, case difficulty, patient satisfaction and medical ethics, supporting the high-quality development of the hospital.
